The new Protector is HE Raymond Cardinal Burke.
He is said on the site of the Archdiocese of St. Louis to use the arms blazoned and emblazoned at:

Does the Cardinal Protector have any right under the rules of the Order to heraldic additaments relating to the post?

I am not a particular expert on the SMOM - a Google search does not reveal anything obvious on the subject. The former/present Cardinal Protectors seem to have been Bailiffs of the Order, which position of course does have heraldic additaments.
