The Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, commonly called of Malta, will on Friday mark 900 years since it was officially recognised and established by a Bull of Pope Paschal II, dated 15th of February, AD 1113. (I believe this date has been updated, so to speak, due to intervening calendar changes). The Order is the oldest Order of chivalry in the world.
Interestingly, the main celebration of this historic event seems to have already occurred in Rome, last weekend, see:

In years past, rec.heraldry was heavily dominated by all things chivalric, so I find it a little shocking that no one has posted about this historic event.
