The silver fern seems to be to NZ what the maple leaf is to Canada. Should the silver fern become part of the official flag, I note that the NZ COA would need adjustment since they include a depiction of the flag. Maybe at the same time, the fern could become part of the shield as the maple leaf has done in Canada.
