I am unfamiliar with how this "Rec Heraldry" board works, so please
bare with me Ladies and Gentlemen.

The Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam is the Real, Personal and
Dynastic property of the Imperial Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam.

It was never given up, forsaken, nor left to die at any time since its'
establishment on 14th of March 1886 in the ancient Vietnamese city of
Hue, by His Majesty, The Imperial Emperor of Vietnam, Emperor
Dong-Khanh, ancestor of the current Grand Master, His Imperial Highness
Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam.

In the 21st century, the Order has changed little from its' original
focus and is today bestowed upon worthy individuals who have
distinguished themselves in the service of the Imperial Nguyen Family.
Those worthy individuals, who are distinguished with the Order of the
Dragon of Annam, join with the Imperial Family, to work peacefully
towards the moral, intellectual and economic restoration of a
democratic Vietnam.

Members of the Order of the Dragon of Annam support the social and
charitable works of the Imperial Family for the benefit of all
Vietnamese people, and in particular the Vietnamese Constitutional
Monarchist League, which is that group of people who wish to see the
end of communist tyranny.

The Order of the Dragon of Annam works peacefully towards the return of
human rights and the restoration of the last legitimate government, the
Imperial Nguyen Dynasty, in a democratic Constitutional Monarchy.

A Constitutional Monarchy in Vietnam will provide freedom, and a
government representative of all Vietnamese people, while preserving
the rich culture and heritage of Vietnam in its ancient Imperial
traditions.

The Order of the Dragon of Annam, is the Real, Personal, and Dynastic
property of the Imperial Nguyen Dynasty

The current Grand Master of the Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam
is H.I.H. Prince Regent Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam.

The current Chancellor of the Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam is
H.E.Colonel Tran Van Ba , late Commanding Officer of the Imperial Guard
of Emperor Bao Dai.

The Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam accepts into its ranks all
good men and women who are associated with the struggle for a free
Vietnam under a Democratic Monarchy.

The Papal Knight Count Michael Subritzky-Kusza of New Zealand is not,
nor ever has been a member of The Imperial Order of the Dragon of
Annam.

the Order's Official English Language Website located here:

Thanks for the info. How does Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Chan descend from
Emporer Dong-Khanh? And if you are not a member of the order how do
you know so much about it? Thanks, Julian.

Hi Julian,

Visit the website I mentioned (English Language - I am the webmaster),
as I think it has all of the answers you seek. There are very
"specific" rules that are followed in the descent of the Headship of
the Imperial Nguyen Family.

H.I.H. Prince Regent Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam is very well
known and his bio appears in the "other" Gotha (Asian Royals),
...Almanach de Brussells??? which I can't at the moment
remember...someone on this loop will know what I mean and point you in
the right direction.

I am myself an avowed anti-communist. All of the "Polish" branch of my
family were wiped out in 1921 (The Miracle of the Vistula) by the
Russians, so I have no love of anything communist.

I wrote the history of the New Zealand involvement in the Vietnam War
which required considerable historic research. A copy of one of my
books was laid at the American Vietnam Memorial "The Wall" by the New
Zealand Vietnam Veterans at a huge parade, so my association with
Vietnamese history is widely known.

I was given the title "Ba Tuoc NGUYEN-PHUOC Minh-Kien - Member of Great
Honor of the Nguyen Dynasty" which I treasure and serve the Imperial
Family of Vietnam as webmaster (The English Website), and sometime
adviser.

I personally am in no doubt that Freedom will succeed over communism in
Vietnam and I also know that the Vietnamese people both at home (in
Vietnam), and the diasporia are very focused towards a democratic
Monarchy. The Imperial Nguyen Family is regarded as "God Like."

The son of the Late Emperor is still alive, and although both elderly
and frail and he is 100% behind the Prince Regent, H.I.H. Prince Nguyen
Phuc Buu Chanh.

H.I.H. Prince Regent Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam, and his very
beautiful wife have made the unification of a democratic Vietnam their
life's work.

I admire them greatly.

Warmest regards,

Michael

Hi Julian,
[snip - some general innaccurate information]
Post by k***@xtra.co.nz
The son of the Late Emperor is still alive, and although both elderly
and frail and he is 100% behind the Prince Regent, H.I.H. Prince Nguyen
Phuc Buu Chanh.
The Crown Prince, the heir of the late Emperor Bao Dai, was born in 1936 and
will be 69 years this year. Is that old? Where is the evidence that the Crown
Prince supports the claim of Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh to be "Prince Regent"
or that he has approved the revival by the latter of the Order of the Dragon of
Annam?

HE The Chevalier Guy Stair Sainty CBE, GOStG (Civil Merit), pp,

Sir, this information is widely known within the Imperial Family
circle, and as well H.I.H. Prince Regent Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of
Vietnam is in possession of the Imperial seal, which we in the West
(would say the birthright), having received it from the Crown Prince
personally.

I have photogrphs of the handing over ceremony etc. However being a
very Eastern event, I do not believe I have the right to onsend them.

If you wish, I can certainly ask and then mail the photographs to you
personally and privately. But I must first obtain permission from the
Imperial Nguyen Family.

They are not professional pics, but rather family "snaps."

The various other documents exist (I well know), but are held within
the Imperial Family which is very insular.

In closing, may I also say in this email loop which is filled with both
armigers and historians, that in the many years I have spent delving
over you various many writings, I am astounded by the accuracy of your
research.

With respect,

Michael S-K

Sgt. Subritzky-

FYI:

Prince Buu Chanh does not have the Imperial Seal used by the late
Emperor Bao Long but rather a copy of it. Under the Nguyen Dynasty
there were many Imperials seals, I believe nine in number which were
used by the Emperor and his high officials for specific purposes. Each
seal had its own name and was believe to posess a powerful spirit
within it. The seal about which you were writing is called "Hoanh De
Chi Buu".

I was told an interesting story by an elderly Vietnamese gentleman
regarding one of these Imperial Seals. He told me that when he was
young in the 1930's that some Mandarins from the Imperial Household
came to his village on official business. They sealed a document inside
of a house and then brought it out onto the veranda so that it might
dry more quickly in the sun. All those who passed in front of the house
removed their hats and bowed to the impression of the drying seal.

Imperial Concubine Mong Diep, now in her 80s and living in France said
to the historian Nguyen Dac Xuan in a 2000 interview: "I was called
into Buon Me Thuoc airport with elephants to receive the seal found by
the French in a rusted tin bin buried under a house in Hanoi by the
fleeing Ho Chi Minh. It was put on a plate and carried by a soldier in
uniform. It weighs 13 kg of pure gold. The sword was broken in half by
Ho Chi Minh to fit it into the tin bin. My mother-in-law told me to Kow
tow at the seal 5 times and said: 'you are lucky, although I am the
Empress Dowager, I have not seen it ever because all the ceremonies
required it's use I was not present'. I took it to our palace in Dalat
covered it with a piece of red silk sitting it in the middle of the
room waiting for his Majesty to return to show him. I asked a sword
smith to repair the sword. The real sword should have a repair mark on
it. The Nguyen Dynasty has hundreds of swords but this one was handed
to Ho Chi Minh during the communist revolution. When his Majesty
returned he took the cover off and said:' that's the real thing! It
went to save our neck, now it's back maybe it's time we all die!..and
smiled to himself. I didn't know what he was thinking...' I took the
seal , sword, imperial robe and the crown decorated by 9 little gold
dragons with Emperor Gia Long's own hair woven into it, to France. I
handed them over to Empress Nam Phuong at Thorenc castle (Nam Phuong's
residence in France) in the presence of The Honourable Ministers
because they was nolonger safe in Vietnam any. Also because Empress Nam
Phuong was the Principal consort, I also have a son, I don't want her
to think I have eye on the Nguyen Throne."

An older Imperial seal was granted by Emperor Ch'eng Lung of China. It
was made of silver and had Manchurian and Chinese inscriptions on it.
On the top of the seal was a figure of a camel. After the sacking of
Hue in 1885 by the French, a peace treaty was signed by the Duke Regent
Nguyen Van Tuong. The French wanted to do away with the Chinese seal.
To return of the seal to Peking would offend the Chinese. After two
months of debate, a compromise was reached and the solution was to melt
it down in a ceremony. The Chinese seal was only used in official
correspondence with China. With all other countries correspondence the
Vietnamese Imperial Seal was used (now with Crown Prince Bao Long). The
Royal Seal from the earlier Le Dynasty was taken to Peking by the last
Le Emperor fleeing the Tay Son rebellion and it was held by the
Manchurian Court until the time of the Empress Dowager Tu Hi.

Please note that the first paragraph of the post above should read:

Emperor Bao Dai but rather a copy of it.

Emperor "Bao Dai" not Bao Long.

I don't know if this is true whether or not, but if it is then I wish to fully support the imperial regent and express my loyalty to the head of the imperial family, though you may never read this. But my grandfather has helped the south Vietnamese government and was a high rank in its old government back then, his father helped fund money and weapons to have us viets get our independence before his execution, and our generations before that were extremely loyal to the late emperors and the imperial family, to where we could've had the chance to evacuate to France with the imperial family with the help of an old friend of my grandfather. As the grandson of my grandfathers youngest child I see it as my duty to support the imperial family at all cost.
