Hi,

On a holyday in Florida, I found a "coat of arms shop" in St. Augustine FL
where I purchased a document with the coat of arms of my family (Dalla Lana
from Italy). They told me that it comes from the archives of an Italian
heraldic society, but I am not sure about this. Does anybody know if these
shops are reliable? Is there a trustworthy source for Italian coats of arms?

Any information is apreciated.

To answer your first question: No, those shops are not reliable! As for
your second question, I am not an expert on Italian Arms so, hopefully,
another can answer.

Larry is right. This type of shop is completely unreliable.

I've checked all of my Italian Heraldry resources, but can't find anything for Dalla Lana/Lana/De Lana. Lana means 'wool', so Dalla Lana means 'From Wool'. It sounds more like an artisan's name rather than a noble one...

Or a merchant--the wool merchants guilds were quite powerful in
medieval/renaissance Tuscany. Of course, the family's not being noble
would not preclude its having a coat of arms, but coming from the type
of shop Orlando describes the arms could equally well be those of
Dulany, Delano, Lennon, Landau, or any other name that remotely sounds
like Dalla Lana. Or of nobody.

I'm surprised that there's a bucket shop with an actual shop that you could just stroll into. I thought this is strictly an internet business.

I wonder if they actually keep their shields in a bucket.

Ottawa used to have a "Coat of Arms Shoppe," a real bricks-and-mortar
establishment and a bucket shop of the first water. It went under in the
'90s, so now (true Gaels, avert your eyes) the bucket market is catered to
by the two locations of "The Scottish and Irish Store," ready to serve all
your needs if you're of the view that "if it's nae Scots, it's crap!" (The
one time I visited, they did have proper clan badges. If you wanted an
eagle feather to go mit, you'd have had to ask a native nicely.) Followers
of other traditions of arms have to order over the net, I suppose.

Thank you for checking, I thought that it could not be that easy to find a
coat of arms. In the shop (St. Augsutine Coats of Arms Shoppe) they had a
book with several thousand names and they claimed to have the coat of arms
of all these names.
