Post by Tim Powys-LybbePost by o***@gmail.comApparently Presidents Mbeki and Zuma of South Africa, as well as
President Hollande of France have been given Honorary GCBs. Does this
mean they have stallplates in the Chapel of this Order; and does
anyone know what arms are depicted on their stallplates?
See <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Bath#Chapel> wich appears
reasonably cogent and may well be very much so.
Zuma and Hollande's Appointments are on the list of Honorary Knights
Grand Cross of the Bath. But it is not clear whether Honorary knights
fit a stall plate in Westminster Abbey.
Out of interest what is the evidence for Hollande receiving the Hon GCB? It is mentioned on Wiki but seems to track back to French news channel BMF TV at
<http://www.bfmtv.com/international/debarquement-marathon-reine-elizabeth-ii-france-787073.html>. From which it was relayed to Belgian media: <http://www.public.fr/News/Stephane-Bern-bientot-distingue-chevalier-dans-l-Ordre-de-l-Empire-britannique-par-Elisabeth-II-539416>.
I cannot find any mention for it in the London Gazette nor the Court Circular. HMQ visited the Elisée on 5 June after she had conducted an investiture at the UK Ambassador's residence. It would have been a suitable day and time for such an award but I would prefer if there was an official source.
Zuma, for instance, is mentioned in the Court Circular for 3 March 2010: "The Queen presented The President of the Republic of South Africa with the Insignia of an Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath".
