As of January 2016, the government of the People's Republic of China has created two new Orders: the Order of the Republic and the Order of Friendship. This has come to something of a surprise to me, as I had previously thought (the People's Republic of) China was one of the few countries in the world that does not have its own system of Orders, along with Switzerland, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Tuvalu. However, it turns out that China did indeed have a few Soviet-style Orders that were all founded in the mid-1950s but were not awarded after the Cultural Revolution in the mid-60s. These were the Order of Baiyan, the Order of Liberation, the Order of Sino-Soviet Friendship, and another one whose name escapes me at present.

Very interesting that. Thanks for posting.

I guess the Chinese when they are visiting a foreign country on a state visit they might from time to time receive an order and medals from the host country, and they in return bring expensive presents along with then. And now they realised that a piece of silver with some crystals and a ribbon can be so much cheaper than an old vase, lacquered rosewood carvings in sandalwood boxes, etc.

Not quite the Chinese; but rather the communists, as China both under the Qing dynasty (in the late nineteenth century) and the Nationalists (who now rule Taiwan) had an exstensive system of Orders.
